Potato Gnocchi Recipe to Prepare at Home with The Family

Lunchtime is approaching and you want to prepare something delicious as a family that’s playful and enjoyable. How about some potato gnocchi? Without doubt, it’s a recipe that will allow you to bring all the members of your family together to prepare.

Here are the ingredients you will need:

1 kilo of large potatoes
1 cup of flour
1/4 cup beaten egg (approximately 2 eggs)
Salt

Once you have your ingredients ready, let's get cooking:

An adult should put the potatoes, still in their skins, into a large pot, and add water and salt. Cook over a medium-high heat. Once the water comes to a boil, lower the heat so that the potatoes continue to simmer gently until cooked and can be easily pierced with a fork. Remove the potatoes and set aside the cooking water.

You should peel the potatoes as soon as possible without burning yourself, then mash them until you get a smooth puree. Make a volcano with the puree, place the beaten egg in the center and sprinkle in 3/4 of the cup of flour.

For this part, you can include the little ones. Remember to check that the mashed potatoes are at room temperature to then mix using your hands or a wooden spoon. The idea is to achieve a moist dough, but one that is not sticky and light. You will find it a fun and playful activity to enjoy with the smallest members of the family.

Once the gnocchi dough is ready

Now divide the dough into eight portions and roll them on a clean surface to form ropes. These should be cut to two centimeters for each gnocchi. Then sprinkle them with flour or semolina, whichever you prefer. Remember to indent them using a fork.

An adult should again heat the water. Once it is boiling, start adding the gnocchi, about 20 at a time. Let them cook until they float to the surface, then add another 20. Remove with a slotted spoon and add them to a pan or dish with tomato sauce or pesto. Serve hot!

Ingredients for homemade tomato sauce:

1 kg of very ripe tomatoes
1 onion
1 bell pepper
2 large garlic cloves
2 tablespoons of oil
Oregano
Salt
Pepper

Preparation:

Place a pot with water over the heat, add the tomatoes, onion and garlic and bring to a boil. Turn off, remove from the heat and let cool slightly. Place the ingredients in a blender or food processor, add a cup of the water they were boiled in, then add the rest of the ingredients. Blend together until they form a paste. Pour into a frying pan with a touch of oil and let cook until the sauce has a more intense color and a thicker texture. Remove from the heat and pour it over your hot gnocchi.
